What can we expect with the news of Scream 7 in the preproduction phase? Let me break it down for you. (This is your official SPOILER ALERT! This article digs deep into the Scream movies. You have been warned…)

Following the Scream Franchise, we know that the franchise took a turn with movie four when Sidney Prescott’s niece, Jill, as the mastermind, turned out to be a fame junkie wanting the spotlight like Sidney had all of those years as the final girl.

The next installment in the franchise took that twist and decided to add to it. In Scream 5, we learn that the final girl, Sam, Is Billy Loomis’ daughter. In fact, not only is she the heir of a legacy character, but so are the twins, Chad and Mindy, following in their uncle, Randy’s, footsteps as horror fanatics. And just as Mindy eloquently puts it in her monologue in true Randy style, this next installment and all following installments are not sequels, but rather requels…

In Scream 5, the kill takes place in Stu Macher’s former house. In Scream 6, they’re in New York going to college, just like Sidney had been going to the small town college, and the final kill is in none other than a theater, just like Scream 2 where Jada Pinket Smith and Omar Epps are taken out as the first kills. While the director wanted to make it a separate scenario instead of a repackaged one, fans still felt the sense of nostalgia where it’s been made clear in the movie that it’s intended as a requel.

This leaves all kinds of interpretations of how Scream 7 will go with internet rumors of Stu Macher making an appearance. Even though the franchise has squashed the idea of him being a return legacy killer, we all are on the edge of our seats eager to know who the new killers will be.

In Scream 6, during another Randy Meeks inspired monologue by reprised character Kirby Reed from Scream 4, we were left with some clues on the storyboard. She created an evidence board of all the killers, starting with Stu and Billy and ending with the question marks of the latest killing spree.

Scream 5 and 6 pulled out all the stops when they went from just the knife kill to also using guns in the movies. It’s already requel vibes, with the addition of guns, as the killers follow the Stab movies and how they introduced new weapons. When we arrive at movie three on this evidence board Kirby set up for us, it has Sidney’s brother, Roman Bridger as a lone killer. Movie three was not your usual Scream franchise movie because the killer always worked in doubles. However, fans were given a clue when the fact that Roman acted alone was brought up. In the history of the Scream franchise, Roman has been the only lone killer in the string of Ghostface murders. Scream 6 took a new edge, by not only having two killers but an additional third killer (a character who faked their death early on in the movie).

Movie two has Mickey Altieri and Nancy Loomis as the killers, where we also come to the dropped easter egg from movie one that Cotton was innocent of murdering Sidney’s mother, and it was, in fact, Billy and Stu that did her in. Nancy, of course, wants revenge on Sidney, and Mickey just wants infamy as a murderer.

Just like in movie one, where it was the love interest of Sidney as the murderer, and then in number two, where we are shown her trust issues when Derek is not the murderer, Scream 5 and 6 follow the same pattern.

At the beginning of Scream 3, Cotton answers the phone to hear the voice of a woman, who then turns into the automated voice of Ghostface. In all of the movies, there has never been an instance where the voice changer used a different voice other than the infamous one we have all come to love and recognize. Was this a clue we all missed? Was there indeed a second killer that went unnoticed who was, in fact, a woman and that was her real voice? In the opening scenes, we learn that the new voice regulator has a way to imitate voices as Cotton’s girlfriend is being tricked by the voice of Cotton to try and lure her out. This trick of movie three was never used again in any other sequels. But if it is indeed a recorded voice of a person, then whose voice was it?
In movie three, we learn that Sidney’s mother had a secret life no one knew about as an actress, and that’s when she gave Roman up for adoption. The whole movie takes place on a movie set, and most of the characters are actors. The second kill of the movie is Candy, who is called to meet Roman at his office. Roman calls her, saying he is on his way and stuck on the road.

Was it really Roman or was it the never-caught accomplice of Roman? Roman needed an alibi to throw the scent of the police off him because there were already two witnesses who knew she was there to meet him. That makes him suspect #1, just like in movie one when Billy was in jail and Stu called Sidney. The height difference between actress McCartney and Foley is half a foot. She’s the same height as Sidney. The height gap noticed between McCartney and Foley in her kill scene doesn’t reflect their actual height difference. We notice in Scream 6 that an additional Ghostface we are led to believe is Kirby, who is shorter and not as strong or violent as the other murders, appeared. We have always been given these subtle differences to know that it is the additional Ghostface.

While Roman is being interrogated by the police over Candy’s death, Sidney gets a phone call at her house from Ghostface. We learn through interviews with the cast and director that Angelina Tyler was supposed to be the second killer. But apparently, that was cut for Roman as a single killer. But the setup is shown throughout the entire movie, for there being a second killer, and well, it’s the franchise’s MO for it.

So will we be graced with Angelina Tyler coming back and her murder by her boyfriend, Roman Bridger, being revealed as a fake, like initially intended? Even Martha, Randy’s sister, made her way into movie five as the twins’ mother after her first appearance in movie three. It’s always someone from the past that comes for Sidney, and seeing that it’s a focus on Sidney for Scream 7, will we see a true Scream sequel posed as a requel where anything goes?
