Abigail is the new R-rated horror film from Universal Pictures starring Alisha Weir as the titular character along with Angus Cloud, Melissa Barrera, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Dan Stevens, and William Catlett. With memorable cameos by Giancarlo Esposito and Mathew Goode.

The film starts off fast, following a group of criminals who work to kidnap a young ballerina and are forced to stay locked up with her in a giant mansion for 24 hours, and if they survive, they win fifty million dollars. Predictably, the pace slows down after the intro and the first character wanders off alone and is killed, soon followed by another who gets turned into a vampire, which by then was no surprise. The remaining characters band together to try to kill Abigail.
Interesting concept? Not really, we have seen this same plot before where a group of people stay in a house for a certain length of time and fight to get out. The story moved along incredibly slow until the last half hour of the film, where the blood and gore seemed average, and several of the corpses and practical effects were so amateurish that I actually laughed out loud.
I’m not saying Abigail is a bad movie, by any means; it’s just lacking a little creativity, and it seemed rushed. Hollywood continues to rehash old themes and toss out money-making machines like this one.

That being said: Did I enjoy it? Sure. Will I ever watch it again? No. Was it boring? A little.
I gave this movie 6.5 out of 10 stars.

I was actually wondering about this movie. Thanks for the review! I’ve share along the interdweeb. Will pop it on Slasher and a few other places later. 🙂
